Screencasting is recording (capturing) the screen activity of a software program in order to create a movie, which you can later show to your audience. The newest approach is to film the onscreen activity as a continuous movie, rather than capture separate images (screenshots) and link them later. It might sound difficult to do but in reality it isn't, there are wonderful free and paid tools available to help to achieve your screencasting goals.

A Screencast versus a Screenshot

Simply put, a Screencast is a movie (with or without narration) of your computer screen going through an operation.
A Screenshot is a still image of your computer screen.
Often, screenshots may find themselves surrounded by text narration, either in a word processing program or on a web page.
This is an example of a screencast that shows us how to search the web properly.
